This One We Call Jesus
We talk alot about Jesus, mostly recognizing Him as the son of God and our savior. There are at least twenty four names given for Jesus in the New Testament. Each of which has some sort of significance.
I would like to point out the different names that were used for Him as to bring a greater understanding of Him to each of us.
All scripture comes from the King James Version of the Bible
Matthew 1: 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
This is His personal name meaning Yahweh saves. Jesus is the one that will save us from our sins. This is something that was set in motion through His ministry and death on the cross.
Matthew 1: 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Jesus is God with us. He carries with Him all of the righteousness and authority of God, He is God.
Matthew 9: 27 And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.
Son of David, One who brings in the kingdom. Jesus is the one who brings in the kingdom of God making it available even to us as sinners. It is only through Jesus that we have any hope of ever being with God.
Matthew 16: 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Prophets would speak of Christ. Him being the annointed one of God as seen by Old Testament prophets. These prophets spoke of Christ many times long before His birth.
Matthew 20: 28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
Jesus walked this earth to set an example of how we should deal with our everyday problems Son of Man is a divine title of suffering and exhaultation
Mark 1: 24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
Jesus is perfect and sinless. Would you expect anything less from the savior of the world?
Luke 13: 33 Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.
A prophet is one who speaks for God. It isn't that God can't speak to us directly but face it,
some of us are just not in tune with God, all the time, to hear every word He says and be able to understand it. Jesus even used parables in His ministry to help us unlock the secrets of God's kingdom.
John 1: 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Jesus is the eternal God who ultimately reveals God for each and every one of us that accepts Him.
John 1: 29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Jesus offered His life as an ultimate sacrifice for all sin just as a lamb was frequently used as a sacrifice under the old law. Death could not contain Jesus though. He arose from the grave on the third day.
John 3: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
Jesus was given a title of respect for one who taught the scripture. There was and never has been a better teacher than Jesus. He teaches us even this day.
John 4: 42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.
Jesus is the one that will deliver us from sin. Through His ultimate sacrifice of death on the cross, we all have an opportunity to be saved.
John 6: 35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Food is essential for living. Here Jesus is telling us that He is the essential food for eternal life.
John 9: 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Light is what brings hope and gives guidance. Jesus is our only hope and it is His guidance that will set you free.
John 10: 11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
Not only does Jesus give us guidance but also provides protection. Our daily lives would be so much more trouble as well as our eternal lives if not for Jesus.
John 20: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Son of God is a title of deity or Divinity, signifying Jesus' special and unique intimacy with the Father.
Romans 10: 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Lord means sovereign creator and redeemer.
1 Corinthians 2: 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
The power of the living God is signified by the term Lord of glory.
Ephesians 2: 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
A chief cornerstone is the very first stone laid in the foundation of a building. It is from this very stone that everything else is built.
This stone must be strong and perfectly shaped in order for the building to be built plumb and true.
It is essential that Jesus be the chief cornerstone of your life and all things of your being are built upon that.
1 Peter 5: 4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
Again a Chief shepherd gives guidance and protection.
Colossians 1: 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
Firstborn from the dead is the one that will lead us into resurection.
Hebrews 3: 1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
High Priest is a perfect mediator.
1 Timothy 2: 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
A Mediator is a redeemer that brings forgiven sinners into the presence of God.
Revelation 19: 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS: Jesus is the sovereign almighty.
Revelation 21: 6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
Alpha and Omega, Jesus is the beginning and the end of all things.
Let's go back over just exactly who Jesus is and what He means to our life.

Jesus is the chief cornersone that should be used in the foundation of your life. Everything you do, any amount you grow should all branch off of this cornerstone in your life.
Jesus lived to be thirty three years old, 3 years into His ministry when it was concluded and exhaulted as He died on the cross to save us from our sins.
Someone that means so much, has done so much for mankind and is still doing for all mankind till this very day. All that is asked of you by Jesus is to accept Him into your heart and repent of your sins.
Through this, you will receive eternal life with Him in Heaven, a better life on earth and a reason for having ever existed.
How could anyone possibly refuse something like this.
If you would like to take part in the wonders that Jesus has set in motion for all of us to enjoy, and want to become a member of the family of God, whisper to God today. Let Him get you on track with Jesus.
